Poggipolini titanium subframe 2004-2006/7 SX/SMR/EXC wanted

Messaggioda asbo_moto » 16 gen 2016, 10:53

Hello all,

I'm looking for a titanium subframe for the supermoto I am building. I'm after one to fit the 2004-2006/7 frame.

Hello :)

Write or call the Poggipolini's company, to know it may produce a titanium's subframe for your specific model (whether or not) :)

...it's very hardly you can find a subframe ready for your bike

They made them for the factory racing team bikes, definitely all the 2004 team motocross bikes had them.

There are some about but I've only found 2 people who have them on their bikes and that's a guy in the states and someone I know here in the UK.

Ive sent messages to the factory race team and KTM, be impressed if I get a response at all and I've also messages Poggipolini. There's a guy in Germany who worked with Steve that had 2 and sold them, one was brand new and my mate managed to score it for €70 the lucky git, I was away with work and never new anything about them till it was too late.

You know a lot :) ...MUCH more than me about these beautiful titanium's subframe :!: :o

I'm sorry , but I just can't help you in your search :(

But ... ...have you already thought for a carbon fiber subframe :?:

I've found this article on the web

Honda is working on a method to mass-produce a carbon-fibre seat unit for the CRF450R to eliminate the need for a separate metal subframe.

The idea of self-supporting seat units, usually carbon-fibre and designed to double as both bodywork and a structural part, isn’t new. Racing bikes have used similar solutions for years, but few have brought the idea to customers. The KTM 690 Enduro R and SMC R are among the machines to do without a separate metal subframe, instead relying on their plastic under-seat fuel tanks to support the rider.

Now Honda has patented its own self-supporting subframe which it intends to be mass-made at low cost, combining a press-moulded carbon-fibre outer section with an injection-moulded resin inner. This is said to ‘greatly reduce’ steps during manufacturing, with a consequent reduction in cost.

Since the bike’s overall layout is the same as the existing CRF450R, the seat subframe houses the air filter and thanks to the use of carbon-fibre the whole thing is made of just two moulded pieces, rather than the large number that make up the current bike’s seat and airbox supporting structure and subframe. The reduction in components, with the advantages of carbon fibre make it much lighter, while the relatively simple production and assembly process should help offset any increase in material costs.

I'm always learning more and more about these bikes each year.

That carbon fibre setup would be great but far too costly to get a one off made for my bike. Now if I managed to get lucky on the lottery it would be a different matter

The thing is I can actually get hold of a 2011-2015 factory titanium subframe. I am debating on having an aluminium fuel tank made in the newer style to fit my bike but I can't make my mind up if I'd prefer the old school look or the new shape. If I could find the subframe I'm after I'd stick with old school but I am tempted to convert to the new style

Ok for the "old school" and ...for the costs of an carbon fiber's subframe

But ...if you have the exact measurements of this titanium's subframe or a template (more than better!) ...

you can't do it making by a good craftsman, that he must be able to settle ad hoc a new subframe :?:

You've actually given me a good thought with that but not to have one made up as I think that will be an expensive custom job as with any one off.

I'll be back with more if I get the answers I'm after

The plan is a no go, not such a good idea re bending titanium as it can cause stress fractures so the hunt for the right subframe is still on

I had found a titanium subframe for the 2011-2015 bikes and thought I may be able to have it modified to fit mine but it could cause stress fractures in the titanium so that's not an option.

Ok ... now I've understand you ... :)

What would you be oriented for your subframe then :?:

And ...an aluminum's subframe will not be fine for you :?:

An alloy it would be more elastic than titanium also ...I think Dave...

Aluminium is weaker than titanium and heavier but the biggest reason I want the titanium subframe is because it is a factory part and the bike I'm building is made up of factory parts

Ok ...wait information by other forum's members ...

Unfortunately, it's obvious that my very little knowledge in the specific can't help you in your search :(

However, I will follow with interest all developments of this topic
